Hosted by David Tuck, founder of Mayday (automated inter-company recharges), and joined by Lara Manton, founder of the award-winning LJM Bookkeeping. The informative hour covered how virtual payment runs are enhancing outsourced financial services.

Lara grew frustrated with how long routine payment runs took every month for all of her clients, and as a one-person business, she is always looking for tech to help her maximise the time she has to spend on each of her clients and deliver the best services.

The manual way; hours wasted, back and forth emails, slight amendments that take forever to change, spreadsheets being shared in email chains. Just thinking back to the ‘old way’ gives us shivers. One way to mitigate a few of these problems is to have direct bank access. However, this isn’t preferable and comes with the stresses of responsibility.

LJM’s motto is “accuracy, continuity and efficiency” something we can relate to. We are focussed on streamlining the payment runs process, with a cloud-based solution that integrates directly with financial tools like Xero and existing bank accounts.

The biggest win

Armed with the power of open banking, Lara was able to remove the hassle and stress of making payments, saving time in the process. The biggest win was saying goodbye to the days of having access to client bank accounts. Like many bookkeepers, the risks involved with having access to client funds weighed heavy on Lara. Also automating the payment process for her clients meant that she was able to offer this service easier and spend more time adding value in other ways.

The annual Xero Awards were held last night at Troxy, London and both LJM and Comma were finalists. Lara was runner up in the Sole Practitioner of the Year Award while Comma was runner up in the Emerging App of the Year Award an amazing achievement by both (if I do say so!).
